Use of thin-layer chromatography on silica gel for serum lipid fractionation and measurement in the routine clinical laboratory.

چکیده
A procedure, appropriate to use in the routine laboratory, is described for thin-layer chromatographic separation of serum lipids on silica gel, followed by molybdate coloring and densitometry. Cholesteryl aniline is used as the internal standard. The procedure is recommended as a screening procedure for presenting graphically the lipid distribution in the serum. Fractions separated and values (±1 SD) obtained from light-transmission measurements, for 70 apparently healthy adults, were: phospholipids, 239 ± 69 mg/dl; monoglycerides, <5 mg/dl; cholesterol, 53 ± 12.2 mg/dl; diglycerides, <5 mg/dl; free fatty acids, 14.3 ± 8.9 mg/dl; triglycerides, 89 ± 30 mg/dl; and esterified cholesterol, 164 ± 25 mg/dI. The method was applied to the study of distribution of lipids in the serum of patients with various diseases.

The Lipophilicity Examination of Some ACE inhibitors and Hydrochlorothiazide on Cellulose in RP Thin-Layer Chromatography
In this assay, the evaluation of lipophilicity of four ACE-inhibitors and hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) with RP-TLC on cellulose layers was described using three binary solvent systems. The selected ACE inhibitors had sufficiently different structures which can indicate the method suitability for their lipophilicity evaluation as the model substances in comparison with HCTZ. In addition, the linea...
متن کاملOxalate-silica gel thin-layer system for free 2-hydroxy fatty acids and for fatty acyl coenzyme A.
The 2-hydroxy fatty acids tend to yield streaks in thin-layer chromatography on silica gel plates. If potassium oxalate is included with binder-free silica gel, good spots are obtained. Similar difficulties are found in paper chromatography of the fatty acid derivatives of coenzyme A, especially with long-chain acids. The same thin-layer system gives good spots with these compounds.

Sophisticated manipulation of surface roughness and solid surface energy are widely used to design super-hydrophobic layers. In this work, we designed highly porous silica layer with contact angle (CA) of 145°, and its robustness was promoted with thermal treatment. Wettability of coated layer is studied with CA measurement for different liquid surface tensions using diluted organi...

متن کاملA Modern Apparatus for Performing Flash Chromatography: An Experiment for the Organic Laboratory.
A modern apparatus for performing flash chromatography using commercially available, prepacked silica cartridges has been developed. The key advantage of this system, when compared to traditional flash chromatography, is its use of commercially available silica cartridges, which obviates the need for students to handle silica gel. The apparatus has been tested for its ability to perform separat...
